Celebration of Life: Sugar, this is for you... « Thread Started on Sept 13, 2005, 3:12pm »
Mprs, Rocky and Al approached me about doing this for you, girl. EVERYONE here loves you so much!
I agree with Kathy, why wait?
I love you, Sugar...Sam. We all do. ************************************************
From Mprsflame to Sugar:
Life is a miracle, from the very beginning at the time of conception to finality of it, when death comes to take the soul and spirit of the person to our Creator. Although we have learned the hows and whys of conception, we have not learned anything of the nature of death. It is elusive, quiet, stealthy, silent, dark, and mysterious. It visits us when we least expect. Death does not send out invitations to prepare us for his coming. Well, not always anyway. With some people, I guess you could say he does, through doctors' words.
With God, I believe, everything comes in threes. Life is no exception. When we are concieved we "live" in a world of warm liquid in a dark cramped area. At an unspecified time, we "die" to that world. Do we fight that death? I think we do, because we are about to leave something we have become comfortable with, a place where we are safe, and going someplace we have no knowledge of, a place of mystery. Then we enter "life" and we grow, learn, mature, age. At an unspecified time, we must "die" to this world, too. We fight, we claw, we cry because we do not want to leave this world where we have become comfortable and feel safe to enter someplace we have no knowledge of, a place of mystery.
After the death of someone close and dear, we, the survivors, have a ceremony to "honor" the deceased with words of love and care. Truth to tell, those words are felt by the grieving but not necessarily heard by them. And although they are nice words to hear, the deceased does not hear them spoken. I have heard my mother on many occasions regarding a funeral say that "it does no good to speak sweet and endearing words of praise and love to the dead when they don't hear it. It's better to tell the person what you think of them while they are still alive." Truer words were never spoken.
We have a wonderful person in our midst, who has recieved an invitation from Death to accompany him to this place of mystery. Why wait until after she has departed for this new world to tell her what she means to us? Why not tell her now when she can read the words for herself?
Sugar, I love you. I do not know you personally, but I know the person you are and you are wonderful. So full of love for the human race and for life. Through all that you have been dealt you have had a most wonderful sense of humor. You see beauty in everything and everyone. You have courage that most people only dream of. I will miss you, Dear Sister, but I will not let your memory get lost. I will hold you in my heart until I see you in the next life.

I only hope that I can be half as brave as Sugar is when my time comes, specially if I have advance warning that its close. Sugar, your warmth, love and compassion and caring will live on in our memories and hearts. Your name is on my list of top ten women that I admire greatly. And that list is not full.

I think the greatest gift we are being given now, and will continue to receive from you, Sugar, is the grace and poise you are showing us! while we worry about the day to day things in our lives and try to endure our petty annoyances, and then we get mail from you often cheering us up rather than the other way around as it should be! I think too often people come and go in our lives some of them remembered and some not, but you will continue to live in our minds and hearts for many years to come because of the inspiration you are to us all here! We all love you!!

Someone once told me that the actual process of dying, like the process of being born, only takes a little time relative to the span we have to occupy ourselves with living. Like most comments, the validity of that one varies with individual circumstance. Also, as Christians, we look to the continued life, spiritual presence, and prayers of those who have gone ahead of us, through the "Valley of the Shadow."
Nonetheless, there is wisdom in those words. You are living among us now. We praise God for that. When the time comes when you are not, as it will come for each of us, you will still be alive to the Lord. We praise God even more for that!
When you move on in response to the invitation of the Angel of Change -- called by many, the Angel of Death -- you may not be able to come to us. But, your prayers can, and we will all come to you in our time.
You have blessed us now and you will bless us forever, your life resonating along like the ripples of a stone cast into a pond. It is unseen now that it has entered Mystery, but the ripples continue and stir us. Even when the ripples are seen no more, nothing is the same as before the impact of that force. It is the same with your life. We won't be the same for knowing you, we will be more: better.
Thank God for you, sister. Thank God! We will grieve, but we will be comforted. It is God's promise. I trust in that.

Sugarmom,
You are an incredible woman! You are full of life, love and mercy and in all my life, I have never known someone as incredible as you! You are a fighter! You are so full of compassion and joy! I love you dearly and am very proud to not only call you my friend, but also my Sugarmom!
A believe that the following passages from my favorite book shows how much I love you; "I thank my God every time I remember you....It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart" Philippians 1:3,7

And of course, there will be other posts added here by those who have not yet had time to add something, like Lee in Brazil, who can not come to this site so will give me something to post for her. It occurs to me to paraphrase something I heard some time ago, we love you not only for who and what you are but for what you make us become by your example!!

So who will volunteer to come to my funeral in 10 years or so and read these wonderful things from you wonderful people to my children?
I guess that sounds kind of gross but some things have to be done even if it seems gross.
I seriously would like for all of you to be at my funeral so my kids can meet you but I know that's not possible so I have to ask who will volunteer to be the EWE representative at my funeral?

I agree, Sugar, it is never too late to prepare except after the fact. If you would like someone to represent us, I suggest Pixie because 1) she is the main founder of EWE and mother to us all and 2) she is closest. But, hey, if we have 10 years, then, who knows, maybe Al will have perfected his lottery winning technique and wins enough money for all of us to attend and each read their own little message. lol

Dearest Sugar, God's infinite wisdom has given all of us at EWE the gift of your wit, wisdom, perspective, and has allowed us to supportive of you, Sam and your son. Life is a cycle, sometimes it resembles a bi-cycle (paralleling two worlds), sometimes it looks like a tri-cycle (esp when we're BUSY!) but God is always sure to start us on a uni-cycle. The uni-cycle is the most humbling, yet difficult achievements (gifts) God affords us. Through its' use, He expects us to learn balance to persevere in our tasks, and to know that things aren't all achieved on the first trial. He is also sure to make that gift in the form of a perfect circle, which has no beginning and no end, much like the friendships we've developed here (I mean, don't you ever forget how you met some unforgettable people?!) Always remember, God will lend us training wheels --they're called prayer!

I think I can speak for everyone that if possible, we would all like to be there money is an issue to travel for most but I think Dani and I are closest.
I'll resend my personal info so Sam can call me
I would like to be there I can print this out and read it, if that is what you would like
This was Flame's idea, for you to have the opportunity NOW to know what we feel for you instead of reading it at your funeral and then you NOT being able to hear on this side of the veil
We do love and care for you you are important to us
all of us
you are our friend and you show us an example of love that is rare very rare and unusual
Take for instance me as an example When I hurt, I withdraw when I hurt, I'm cranky When I'm in pain, it takes all my reserves and will to think of others because when I hurt, every pulse reminds me I hurt
I mean, real, heart pounding hurt
then I see for instance how Kevin Kline portrayed grace and love in "My life as a house" and it was moving and one of my favorite movies
but it's just that a movie
This is life and you are real you are not a movie, but alive and one of OUR family OUR friend and a sweet and gentle and generous lady
Just in case others DON'T know when I was going through the fresh hell of R back in April 2003 and had NO money for groceries and "he" closed our oint accounts and wouldn't give us any money to live on or pay the bills we had and I was going into disconnect on everything (including elecricity) remember when we were living on mac and cheese and peanut butter? Sugar sent me a hundred dollars for groceries and said to not worry about paying her back (Joan and Al sent me money as they could afford also).
Sugar, I knew you didn't have the money to spare, yet you were there and you fed us
that meant a LOT to me
who will volunteer? I will
Sam has to let us know and he might have to be willing to pick me up from the bus station if my car can't make it but I'll be there...

from Sam:
Thank you very much for doing this for *Sugar* This is really hard for me. So the only thing I can say is that God keeps her around for a long time. She is a great lady and will be sadly missed when she goes. I Love her very much and Pray all the time that God will save her and let her live a good life with this cancer. I will leave it up to God to do what he wants to do with her. ...she is a very Sweet and caring Lady, that I Love so much...

I think the things written here is a great example of the inspiration Sugar has inspired in us all, and continues to inspire!! If we are known by the company we keep, we have all become far better by virtue of knowing this gracious, very special person!!
